Travind I am not close to the family anymore I made the dude so uncomfortable he stopped calling me. Here are some avoidance techniques, but you need to be ballsy to pull them of and never exceed the limits of decency and you must have a sense of timing and humor to do these. I have used these techniques myself for avoidance
1) Stare at his wife or sister and constantly compliment their looks, cooking, chai etc
2) Make lots of sticky notes with their quotes in the meetings and stick it on their walls
3)Break your pencil or pen at the meeting and loudly say cuss words like "shit that is good"
4) Itch nervously when they approach you in any location they will leave you thinking you have some skin disease.
5) Cough without closing your mouth directly in front of their face
6) Wear ghetto clothes when you go to the usual locations they avoid you like the plague (sorry guys who wear kurta with jeans and leather chappals you are the most obvious target)
7) Borrow cd's, dvd's etc and never return them or their calls they are bound to be nice since even in the worst case they are still trying to sell to you.
There are more things to do but i'm guessing some other people will post their experiences , just one word of caution do not extend your torture because these people are human beings who have been proselytized by their diamonds etc that they dont realize and don't worry they will not learn from you.

As a Tamil, I too carry the Indian passport with shame and can't wait to see the day when I become a US citizen.
Let me be the first to say, all the best to you to get the US citizenship fast... and more importantly good riddance... And all the best for Americans to get a model citizen like you. By the way, I hope you do know about the oath you need to take to become an American. Hope you do that sincerely and are not narrow-minded then.

What is $170 and $180? I got this number from my attorney.
However, we are getting conflicting #s on application fee!
Please resolve these #s. Lawyer fees vary. So we can give least and max #s.
There should be no discrepancy in the application fee - I pulled out these numbers from www.uscis.gov.

As for lawyer fees, it varies by State, Experience, Number of dependents, and Reputation. I think the $2000 is representative of lawyer fees for primary applicant plus 1 dependent. I spoke to a lawyer in California who charges around $1700 for I-485/AP/EAD, and multiply that by the number of dependents. Another one on the east coast said $2000 for primary and spouse.
If you go for I-140/I-485, then lawyer fees for 1 applicant can go up to $4000 easy.

An excellent idea so far from any member. This can certainly make govt/congress serious about EB issues. And if govt really goes ahead and does something as mentioned in the post, it'll benefit current GC waiter homeowners to get their GC fast and also persuade GC waiters who are still on fence about home buying decision.

The question doesn't arise because he is SRK or APJ or in future Manmohan singh. The point is does it take TWO HOURS to find the identity of the person. How did you feel when you were questioned for an hour at the POE even after staying here for 9 years and stay in US legally and paying taxes etc.. can't they have better immigration procedures in place to identify legal from illegal (LIKE biometric finger printing, etc). They have this sophisticated computer information network.. if you give your SSN they can find any data they want.. about your employer, about your pay roll, your taxes etc.. then why this delay at POE to idenfity geniune people from entering US. These actions look totally racist to me. Don't you think these (US) people know how to improve this system.. they can but there is no will to do so.. Just look at priority dates how they swing +5 years to -5 years every year (2000 to 2005). It looks like someone just picks any year between 2000 to 2005 based on his mood. Can't this developed country have a software system to predict visa number availability or to predict how the dates should advance and by how much... this is want really sucks.. this so called developed country doesn't have a system in place for immigration issues.. Just look at the people who got their green cards who's priority dates were 2006 and people from 2002 or 2003 are still waiting.. how can their system (software) allow people with older dates to wait while someone with PD 2006 get their GC.. Things can be better managed and controlled with total transperancy but there is no WILL to do so.. i am not sure if IV can play any role in pushing some reforms to have a better system in place. There was another thread discussing about IO officers visting to employee office to find geniune applications and for more details.. this is simple waste of money and resources with SSN can give you almost 90% of the details.... overall the frustration is about the System and not about SRK or APJ.

Indians are masters in creating unnecessary ourage. Look what a big deal the Indian media made of students being attacked in Australia. Indians declared Australia as a racist country and they branded Britain also as racist when Shilpa Shetty episode took place. Now also they are making a non-issue as a big deal. It seems that Indians thinking is buillt around that all the world is racist and biased toward India. But, when it comes to showing ourage to genuine issues they are always silent. So many horrible things happen to millions of Indians everyday but no body cares about them. Also, when chinese think tank published a report last week about breaking India in many states, there was no outrage. As compared to this news SRK news is nothing. The reason is simple chinese will shut Indians out because they know what works while dealing with Indians.

Grupak, I am not suggesting any single country is monopolizing the foreign worker pool. Employment laws in the US are fairly non-discriminatory except the diversity in workplace or "Affarmative Action" component which prefers a minority when two candidates possess the same skills.

But seriously, I will not get immediate relief. I will have to continue to wait in some queue for another decade. I have been in the US since 1994, completed 6 years of education and have been employed since 2000. My PD was current for 2 months, I am still sitting here looking at a dismal October Visa Bulletin. Yes, I bought my house 4 years ago. Why can't I be included in this list?

I don't think that per-country caps on immigration are unconstitutional. Please note that I am affected by this and would be very happy if the caps are lifted, but I do not think that this approach is viable and that this is the best use of our limited resources.

So in a sense, we have allies in the corporate sector with tons of money (and who want to make more!) So they might be willing to support us,

The per-country ceiling was originally created in order to establish and maintain proportionality in various immigrants coming from different countries in FAMILY BASED IMMIGRATION.
Family based immigration is driven by family relationship. Its not driven by talent or economic contribution. Therefore its important to make sure that no country completely dominates the family based immigration system by getting a head start. If one country is ahead initially in sending immigrants (like the Irish in the 1920s and Italians in 1930s), then that country's immigrants would sponsor their family and that new family would in turn sponsor their relatives and so on. Whichever country has an advantage in the begining would keep building on that advantage and eat up the entire family based quota. That's why when they wrote the INA in 1965 by codifying a bunch of loose federal regulations that governed immigration, they inserted the per-country ceiling. And that makes sense even today in Family based immigration.
Every country in the world has unlimited potential to send family members and relatives to America. But every country in the world does not have unlimited potential to send Ph.Ds and skilled labor. That ability is disproportionately huge with India, China, Mexico and Phillipines.
The per-country ceilings got INHERITED into employment based system because our legislators were too lazy to spot the difference in two systems. One system gives you a green card because you are related to someone. Other system gives you a green card because you have skills that are wanted by an employer here.
Benefits driven by family relationship should be rationed and given out propotionally because an Irish family, Italian family and a Chinese family all love their families equally and the value of family re-unification is the same. You cant say that the Irish love their sibilings more than the Chinese or Indians do. HENCE THE COUNTRY LIMITS IN FAMILY BASED SYSTEM.
But in employment based system, what the system is doing is that an Irish guy, (or any ROW guy) with Bachelor's degree in EB3 is getting green card sooner than an Indian guy or Chinese guy with masters degree in EB2. - Lawyer fees for form preparation and accounting of changes in laws= $2000
- Medical examinations And Immunization costs = $300 (many docs dont' take insurance, they didn't in my area) * 2 = $600
- Photographs = $25* 2 = $50
- Courrier services, photocopying, printing, long distance calls = $200
So, once again, I am looking at spending: $2850. This money that I/employer spent last month is GONE. Who is responsible now? That's all i wanted to point out. When I said double, I meant spending $2850 twice, and also adjust for inflation. The above costs do not include USCIS filing fee.
To calculate the money that has gone down the drain, just multiply that by say 50000 applicants who will not be able to apply within 1 year. That's well over $100 million. This is not a small amount, one could start a pretty good size company that can effciently go through the backlogs.

Money lost will be the amount spent on Medical Examination (In my case $550, as I ended up with a doctor of my choice out side my medical insurance network), So even if my conpany can reimburse, I cannot... Also per my attorney Medical Examination Reports are valid for a year, If we apply within a year, this is also not lost. If someone or his family has to rush back to USA, to file AOS, then the amount spent are waste. Loss of vacation and money.
My point is not to discourage any one, but when we wirte to media, folks will investigate all before they publish to main stream. We need to be fair and should provide the correct information, else we might loose the coverage.
We need to highlight the expenses occured and stress this has caused to many many people.

I read lot of news from school and I learnt this 'multi-link' business 20 to 25 years back. So as soon as he asked me if I wish to make 'LOT OF MONEY' without working, I understood that the poisonous snakes had entered US long time back.
I had only one encounter 10 years back that went up to the so called 'Business meeting with Tea Party' because I was new to US and these guys were using an updated terminology.
From then on, I enjoy if I meet such people in Malls, grocery stores, Walmarts. I let him talk for about 20 - 30 mins when my wife is shopping. Asking him very basic questions as if I have not seen a $10 bill in my life. By the time he realizes that I am playing, my wife finishes shopping and we leave.
