Yeah well. I also heard the rumour that in the next month july bulletin USCIS is going to move the dates forward from Current to Current+2 months = September 2007. This will allow everyone to get greencards in advance and then after they get their greencards they can apply for Labor, I140 and whatever.... :)

Well, I think the scenario is different. It is somewhere inbetween those two thought processes:
1. They are counting on CP case; but not much. If you look in the past stats about EB cases processed via CP, it is usually a very small number (and this would just make sense: if you are doing EB green card, you will be working in US and will do AOS). CP cases can not be more than several hundreds.
2. The major hopes DOS has is on USCIS to process large number of cases. And they ARE capable of doing so; but only RANDOMLY (not in the order of PD or FIFO or anything like that). It is very unlikely that DOS will let USCIS waste any visa numbers. Because it is DOS's responsibility, not USCIS's. And that was main reasoning behind July Fiasco; where DOS wanted to prove that it is not DOS but USCIS who is responsible for the wastage (remember, there were some 60000 visa numbers unused at that time). This time, they are playing the game of "cooperation". DOS will advance dates only till USCIS can handle (not everything Current); and in exchange USCIS will use up all the numbers.
If USCIS can not show that they have used up at least 75% (or something in that range) of the remaining visa numbers (which are probably in the range predicted in this thread giver or take few thousands) by mid august, DOS will further advance dates in sept. If USCIS shows that they used up most of the numbers, dates may go back. It would not matter what the dates are in sept as the end result is the same: all the remaining visa numbers will be used (probably randomly) to people with PDs upto mid 2006.
I do not buy the "CP using numbers" theory from Ron or Murthy. It is all about allowing USCIS to use the numbers randomly and let them pick the "low hanging fruits" (as they usually like).
For the next fiscal year, they will move dates back to mid 2004 (just a wild guess), but I dont think it matters any way...(till the end of the fiscal year). USCIS will probably go in hibernation again till the last quarter of next year and the date will advance again dramatically (may be upto 2008) to let them use all the left over/spilled numbers.

I suggest a typical breadwinner with spouse + 2 dependents is probably paying $500 / mo + in health insurance premiums. Add that $6K / yr to your US tax bill, then compare it to your Canadian tax bill. ;)

It is not good to put fake identity in any forums. The guy (MARPHAD) pointed out have a good civic sense. Here admins are not paid. They have jobs, and not always watching people. This site is for every one. So the members have an obligation to find out the fake, anti immigrants. He may not be anti immigrant, but he have fake identity. Discrimination in employment based on nationality is not allowed. However, can we extend the argument to the employment based immigration? We can always choose to take that promotion though we will lose our place in the queue.
Leaving the question of fairness aside, under the current legal framework my guess is we do not have a case.
This is a very interesting angle... even though on the surface it looks like we have a choice in taking that promotion and losing our place in queue, it is not really a choice. Do this a couple of times and your six years on H1-B expire, you basically have to leave your job and go back to your country. So taking a promotion is eventually a dead end. I think by extension, we can legally argue that this per-country based quota system is really (inadvertently) leading to discrimination in our employment based on nationality (which is unconstitutional).

Due respect Chanduv23 - I believe there are a million and more who've done better and fought tougher battles. I'd think some of them are here on this very forum. I may not have had an opportunity to grow up in India - however, I'm pretty sure - in fact quite certain, the sort of b'wood trash dished out, is nothing representative of Indian culture and ways of life. Most of the stuff encourages ills of American pop culture and feels desperate to the point of being foolish wannabees - and you know what's really sad -- that people from a nation with such incredibly history & culture need the feel to ape ills of American pop culture and the likes. DOS (or any government agency for that matter) cannot interpert the law differently for each year. One law and one interpretation. It can't follow the different set of rules when implementing the law each year. Initally, INA was designed to follow vertical spill over (diversity was important than preference catagory). But, AC21 law ameneded the INA to force the DOS to implement horizontal spill over (preference catagory is important than diversity). However, DOS was still follwing verical spill over evenafter the AC21 act till 2006. If DOS followd the law correctly, EB2-I and Ch would have never been retrogressed since 2005. Lucky for DOS, no one has challanged the DOS. Now they realized the mistake and follow the law correctly. They follw this till if congress changes the law.

I have seen the same situation in 2005 when i was buying a home with a credit score of over 700. I was denied by so many lenders, but anyway got a decent loan from Wellsfargo.
(But those days are different, housing market is on high, no worries of credit crisis etc;)

They will give mortgages only to U.S.Citizens or somebody who is a permanent resident aka having a green card. There are very very few lenders who will give mortgages to somebody on a visa and the rates may not be very favorable.

It is Indian gov. lobbied efforts to ban LTTE by western country. they are well organized, disciplined and high tech group. some people raise another issue, they recruited young children to fight, we all are talking so called democartic India, still encouraging child labor every where in India. Srilanka Government boldy refusing all western country pressure, even United Nation (UN, this is pice of shit in the trash) unable to convience SL gov. because it is backed by Indian gov. or you may called Sonia gov.
Bottom line is Sonia is taking revenge on Tamils by supporting SL gov., after all she is from the country that killed Jesus.
We already denounced India, I am carrying Indian passport with shame.

All those who think that the rest of the word should get involved, where were you when the LTTE bombed colombo in numerous occasions? Used suicide bombers to kill innocent civilians. The rest of the world watched and didn't get involved. You had 30 years to provide a solution to this war. Now is not the time to get involved. Sri lankan gov is finally taking matter into their hands and its high time. LTTE is a terrorist organization that's banned in the US/UK and all over the world. They should not be supported. Tamil children can get education in any of the schools and universities in any part of the country unlike sinhala/muslim kids. Children get free education in the country. Sinhalese are not allowed to attend universities in the north and east. All the sinhala/muslim people were chased away from the north and east where as tamils can live anywhere in the country without any discrimination. If LTTE is providing tamils a safe heaven why did they move out of the north.
Tamils can join the parliament if they're elected through an election. Lakshman Kadirgamaris tamil and held a prestige position in the parliament as the foreign minister but was killed by the LTTE. Look at Muralitharan, wold class bowler. How did he excel if tamils are discriminated. He came from one of the elite schools situated in an area where majority is sinhala/muslims.
Tamils are not the only ethnic group that was required to carry national ID at all times in colombo. All civilians in colombo, including sinhala and muslims are required to carry IDs with them. I was stopped more than twice at check points and I had to carry my passport with me at all times since I've misplaced my ID.
