I agree with you. It really amazes me that India is not even saying "something" being a so-called "super-power" in south Asia. Until the last generation of politicians are out of the indian political system, nothing is going to change when it comes to the image or pride of India. At least we should exert out strength and take a leadership role in South Asia and show our power.
India has a history in Sri Lanka. It started long ago with IPKF. A lot of Indian lives were lost because IPKF had to fight the war with their hands tied. IPKF could have captured Pirbhakaran but they did not because Rajeev thought Tamils will not get their rights if they did so. Then Rajeev Gandhi got assassinated. A few years back LTTE had the upper hand and Sri Lankan govt wanted India to step in and help them. India did not sent the troops. now the battle has swung the other way. It is fairly complicated.

Do you understand English? First of all, i had mentioned, i am BEING offered, meaning i havent gone for the labor yet and even if i do there will be no buying or selling involved.

People like him always will think that you are cheating the system or something like that just because a company offered you a labor substitution. I think that one should not judge such cases, and I am actually happy for all of those who are fortunate enough to receive their green cards sooner because of third factors. I think you are taking it so personal. I am not opposing this idea. In fact, I suggested to check with your immigration lawyers and share what they say.
All I'm saying is that, in my personal view, I don't see any discrimination on the existing law you are pointing out. I don't see anyone being discriminated. It just so happen that we belong to 4 countries affected by this quota.
If we can ask the US government to probably give exception to us, I think that's one idea. But that's absolutely remote.
My country of origin has got nothing to do with what we are talking here. You are taking so personal because you might have been waiting for your GC for quite sometime. Well, we are just on the same boat.

Profiling is an issue and because of some jokers we all may have to go thru scrutiny.
We should ask USCIS to check all GC applicants name in Amway database and if found USCIS needs to send them to Mexico (because illegal)..
We should write to senators... your opinion on this? ( this way Indiancommunity can be clean and fight for legal hardworking people in immigration policy)

My dependents are out of US for almost 5 months for now and they have AP approved before they left US and they are planning to come to US in couple of weeks from now on AP. Our PD is going to be current in Aug08. Is this OK to be out of US for this much time when AOS is pending? Staying out of US for this long would effect their AOS processing in any way?

1. If I change into a non-academic job, then can the PD be retained when I refile?
2. If I go out of US for a few years (say 3-5 years) and then come back with a new job, will I be able to retain this PD when I refile?

However, by following horizontal policy, if EB-2 India/China is cleared and made current, Any spillover in EB-3 should be equally shared and EB-3 India's share will improve but in miniscule way.
Fighting for legislative relief is the only way out for EB-3 instead of dividing our community between EB-2 and EB-3

I have applied for 485 last year and I already have I-140 approved so I meet the criteria for AC21.
My question is that I have not applied for EAD and I am still on H1 with same employer. In case I lose job will I be considered out of status immediately for the reason that I am not using EAD. As I understand being on EAD allows some flexibility in gap in employment until the time of approval of 485 application.
I suggest you apply for your EAD as soon as you can. It allows you a lot more flexibility and also helps with other issues such as the drivers license.

What use is this thread? How does it serve the purpose of IV. I see emotions flaring up time and again with every "incident" that media sensationalizes. Its high time administrators here took control of our messaging otherwise anti-immigrants are soon going to pounce on this. I sense an under-current of hatred in some posts as well.
